Fathers Of Mercy

Our parish missions are conducted at the invitation of the pastor or the bishop. The purpose of a mission is to assist the pastor in his ministry by our conferences, administration of the sacraments, and preaching the Word of God to the people of the parish. We seek to inflame all the members of the parish with the Infinite Love of Almighty God, and to call them to receive the Merciful Love of the Heart of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Generally speaking, our missions will run for five days. We begin by preaching at all of the weekend Masses, inviting the members of the parish to participate in the mission that week. The mission services themselves will begin on Sunday evening, usually with a Eucharistic Holy Hour and preaching before the exposed Blessed Sacrament. The mission services continue each evening through Thursday, usually with the Mission Conference in the context of either a Eucharistic Holy Hour or the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass (at the discretion of the pastor). In some large parishes and other parishes with large populations of elderly persons or person who work in the evening, we will often give the mission talks twice each day -- a morning or midday conference as well as the evening conference. The Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) is made available several times each day, including before and after the evening Mission Conference, so that all who wish to avail themselves of this great Sacrament of the Divine Mercy will have the oppurtunity to do so.

Persons who attend at least several of the mission services during the week, including the Closing Mass on Thursday, have the oppurtunity to receive a plenary indulgence, which remits all temporal punishment due to sin that the person has incurred to that point in his or her life. The requirements to receive this plenary indulgence are: attendance at Mass and reception of Holy Communion in the state of sanctifying grace; confession within eight days of the close of the mission; prayers for the intentions of the Holy Father (at least one Our Father and one Hail Mary); and detachment from all of one's sins.
