First Baptist Church Cold Spring

4410 Alexandria Pike
859-441-6184

History :

First Baptist was founded in October of 1794 and was originally called Mouth of the Licking Church, because it was located about six miles from where the Licking River empties into the Ohio River.  In 1820 the name was changed to Old Licking Church. In 1942 the name was changed, again, to First Baptist Church of Cold Spring.

On July 29, 1803, the North Bend Association was constituted at the Dry Creek Meeting House in what is now known as Kenton County, but at that time was Campbell County.  The Mouth of the Licking Church joined the Association with nine other churches in forming the association.  The other churches were: Forks of the Licking, Falmouth, Flower Creek, Bullittsville, Brush Creek, Dry Creek, Middle Fork, Twelve Mile and Bank Lick.

In 1807 the membership of the church numbered 38. In the first 50 years of the church they held revival services twice a year. In 1898 the church adopted the envelope system of raising funds for contributions to missions. In 1910 there were 71 members.

Through the years First Baptist has assisted mission churches in Ohio: North College Hill, Seven Hills and Pleasant Ridge; and Kentucky: West Covington Baptist and Licking Valley. First Baptist has a rich history of ministry in the city of Cold Spring, community of Campbell County and the Northern Kentucky/Greater Cincinnati Area.
