About Us:

First Baptist Church had its origin in 1870 when on March 30th, Samuel A. Reppy and his wife, Rachael, granted for for the sum of one dollar, a parcel of land to four churches: the Presbyterian Church, the Northern Methodist Episcopal Church, the Methodist Episcopal Church South, and the United Baptist Church. Each of the churches met one Sunday per month for worship but joined together as the Union Sunday School each week. Faithfully, the church met together for ten years, ceasing to function in 1880. They reorganized on May 27, 1894, as the Hillsboro Baptist Church with a membership of twenty-three. The church, having incorporated on June 22, 1955, changed its name to the First Baptist Church of Hillsboro. Circumstances, led of God, gave the church the opportunity to purchase the Hoeken House nearby on Highway 21 in August of 1953.

Continuous growth necessitated building and groundbreaking began in the Spring of 1956. The fellowship of First Baptist Hillsboro met for the first time in their present auditorium on December 9, 1956. In 1971 a new education building was built to meet the needs of the ever-increasing teaching ministry and was dedicated to the memory of the church's dedicated and beloved Pastor, Rev. Jack Hunter. Though we have marked our progress by dates and building projects, the true markers of growth have been the people of First Baptist Church as they have faithfully served the Lord. This is a church of loving, caring, and warm people. A church that holds the worship of the Lord high, rejoices in their salvation obtained through Jesus Christ, and seeks the anointing grace and conviction of the Holy Spirit. The Word of God is cherished and held as our greatest authority and source of comfort.
