Church History:

Around 1845, according to "old-timers", a few families who had moved into the little village of Roanoke from the High Pine community founded the First Baptist Church. The house of worship was a small unpainted building with a single aisle. Men and boys sat on one side; women and girls, on the other. Deacons and singers occupied the Amen corner to the right of the pulpit. There were no musical instruments and candles furnished lighting when required. Services were held on the third Saturday and Sunday in each month. Roanoke First Baptist Church chief mission interest was supplying Bibles to Confederate soldiers.

Today, 155 years later, First Baptist Church stands as a reminder of hard work and faithfulness of those who've come before us. Although times have changed it remains the goal of First Baptist Church to carry out the mission minded work which began over a century and a half ago.
