In 1834 Josiah Sawtell of Lowell was contracted by the Building Committee to build the House “above the underpinning,” for the price of $3,359.90. The contract did not include the clock and bell, which were to be presented by Moses and Charles Warren of Boston.​

The building was completed in 1835, with the tower clock and bell following 1836.
