First Church of Christ, Scientist, Belmont

199 Common Street
(617) 484-3963

You are warmly invited to our church services, and children are lovingly welcomed in our Sunday School.

Sunday Services, from 10:45-11:45 a.m., center on weekly Bible Lessons on subjects ranging from  “God” to “Christ Jesus” to “Is the Universe, Including Man, Evolved by Atomic Force?”

Wednesday evening meetings begin at 7:45 p.m. and include the sharing of spiritual insights and testimonies of healing by the congregation.

Nursery care for small children is provided during all services.

Come visit our Sunday School and learn about God together. Jesus’ invitation to all children was, “Let the little ones come to me; do not try to stop them; for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” Christ Jesus, The New English Bible, Luke 18:16.

Our Sunday School, which meets at the same time as our church service, 10:45-11:45 a.m., welcomes children and young adults through age 19. It is a joyous place where the students learn how much God loves and cares for them, a place where their innate spirituality is nurtured, and where they are loved and respected as thinkers.

Experienced church members lead the classes in questions and answers about the timeless, spiritual truths of the Bible and how to apply them in daily life. Foundational lessons are the Ten Commandments, the Lord’s Prayer, and the Sermon on the Mount, including the Beatitudes. Children and teens also become familiar with many Biblical characters and their stories, especially Christ Jesus’ life and teachings. Stories and parables are adapted for each age, and classes discuss their spiritual meaning and applicability to students’ lives.

In addition, the teachings of Christian Science as given in the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, help students learn to apply healing ideas to whatever issues or problems they may be facing, whether related to school, home, sports, relationships, or physical challenges. As students grow in their understanding of their own and everyone’s relation to God, they not only gain practical spiritual lessons but also receive a solid moral foundation. Our Bible-based teachings promote values such as respect, kindness, unselfishness, honesty, humility, fairness, and thoughtfulness.  “Love for God and man is the true incentive in both healing and teaching” Mary Baker Eddy writes in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. p. 454:17-18.
