Fishers Island Yacht Club

49 Central Ave.
631-788-7036

Long before the first Fishers Island yacht club in 1886, boats were sailing its waters. One of the earliest was the sloop Onrust, from which Adrian Block discovered the island in 1614. Block likely named the island for his mate, Bill Visschers. Fishers Island was settled in the early 1600s by John Winthrop the Younger whose family continued to farm and manage the Island until after the Civil War. In the 1880s, the Winthrops sold the island and Fishers Island began to be slowly developed. Fishers Island today reflects the efforts of many to preserve and protect the pastoral and unspoiled island environment.

The Fishers Island Yacht Club is an active Club supporting Junior Sailing in Optimists and 420s, adult racing in International One Design and Bullseye classes, recreational sailing in Ideal 18s and the other classes, cruising and regular social events built around our on-the-water activities. The Club manages a marina capable of hosting transient yachts and is happy to host visiting yacht clubs.
