Ford Elementary School

1345 Mars Hill Road
678-594-8092

Our school was named for George Ford. Mr. Ford moved to Cobb County in 1920. His family operated a store on the corner of Mars Hill and Fords Road. As a child Mr. Ford attended a one room school house in Cobb County. Between the ages of fourteen and fifteen, Mr. Ford drove Cobb County's first school bus carrying children in this area to Acworth High School. He made two runs in the morning and two runs in the afternoon, while attending school himself. As an adult he worked as a fireman and for Lockheed.
He served as a director for Cobb EMC for over seventeen years. He was an active member of County Line Methodist Church and a charter member of the Red Rock Community Club. George R. Ford's dedication to education and his community is the foundation upon which Ford Elementary was built.
The George R. Ford Memorial Fund was established by the Ford family to assist Cobb EMC with activities benefiting local students. This fund gives an award annually to fifth grade students who have demonstrated exemplary grades and attendance. Eligible students write an essay about what citizenship means to them. Three winners are selected and honored on the last day of school.
