About Us:

The Fremont County School District #21 is located in Fort Washakie, Wyoming on the Wind River Indian Reservation.  This Reservation is shared by the Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho tribes.  The Reservation is situated in the central western portion of Wyoming.  It is the seventh largest Indian reservation by area in the United States, encompassing a land area of 3,473,272 square acres.  The Wind River Reservation encompasses just over one-third of Fremont County. The Eastern Shoshone population of approximately 4,200 people, which is situated primarily around Fort Washakie, forms the basis of our student enrollment.  We sit on the high plains with an awesome view of Wind River Mountains. The rural-ness of the district affords our students an opportunities of the outdoors. However, our schools lay within fifteen miles of county seat of Lander, Wyoming.

The school district is configured into three attendance sites. The elementary campus is K-6, the junior high school is 7-8 and our high school is 9-12. The school day for student begins at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 3:30 p.m. Strategies have been put into place to help the students be successful at all levels. Currently we have a strong collaboration with a nationally recognized consultant to improve reading, comprehension, and math for all our students.

The District is about to begin a transformation of its facilities. The Wyoming School Facilities Commission has approved the funds, which together with District funds will build new PK-12 schools. It will be a busy and exciting time as we start the planning and then the building phases of this significant project with a total of 177,100 Gross Square Foot.
