Friends Of The Arts
Mission statement
The Friends of the Arts are dedicated to:
Establishing a community environment in which the arts are pervasive and can flourish;
Broadening the base of community understanding of the arts;
Promoting the base of financial support for the arts; and
Promoting the best arts education the community can offer.
About Us
We are Friends of the Arts. The Friends are just that, a group of friends who share a passion for the arts.
Many of us were leaders of the Columbia Business Community for the Arts (CBCA) and over the years our association with one another has resulted in a track record of notable accomplishments dating back to the early 80's including: The Columbia Arts Center, The Vancouver Cultural Council, ArtsCrawl and the Vancouver School of Arts and Academics.
In 1996, we became Friends of the Vancouver School of Arts and Academics. In addition to the $1m Leslie Durst, President and Chair Person, contributed to create the Royal Endowment for Arts Education, the Friends of VSAA raised more than $650k to support K-12 arts education across the Vancouver School District and ensure the completion of the handsome Royal Durst Theatre that is now home to many other local arts organizations.
Then in 2001, we made a conscious decision to turn our attention back towards ensuring that our youth have a vital arts environment to graduate into.
Therefore, we re-incorporated as Friends of the Arts and are turning our attention to the revitalization of the Vancouver community using the arts as an economic development strategy.
