HISTORY AND MISSION:

The Gates Mills Land Conservancy is an all-volunteer land trust formed by Village residents in September of 1988. They formed the Conservancy with the mission to permanently preserve and steward the woodlands, fields, wetlands, and fresh water streams that make Gates Mills a beautiful place to live for us and for the abundant birds and wildlife that also call the Village home.

Over the years, the generosity and support of Gates Mills Villagers, in the form of donated land, funds, and conservation easements, have allowed the GMLC to acquire 22 properties totaling 218 acres, and to protect another 29 properties comprised of 451 acres through conservation easements and deed restrictions. To date, we've permanently protected 670 acres. We've come a long way, but we're not quite finished fulfilling our founders' vision. We couldn't have accomplished all that we have without you, and we greatly appreciate your continued support going forward.

In 2013 we achieved accreditation from the Land Trust Accreditation Alliance. We were the first all-volunteer trust in Ohio to earn accreditation, and the third trust in the state. The following year the GMLC was awarded the National Land Trust Excellence Award from the Land Trust Alliance.
