Histoy :
"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you."

In 1987, after a survey of the area, the North Carolina Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church saw the need for a church in this part of Cary. Rick Wilkerson was appointed to be the founding pastor. He began knocking on doors of local neighborhoods. The first small gathering was at the Oxford Hunt Clubhouse. This is where our music and missions were born.

We moved our worship services to Briarcliff Elementary School. We found ourselves sitting in tiny chairs and dreaming that some day the 7 acres on the two-lane High House Road would be our permanent church home. We moved to the Cary Family YMCA as we encountered the hard work to raise funds and create plans for a facility where setting up and taking down chairs would not be a significant part of our Sunday mornings.

On Sunday, September 11, 1994, the glorious first Sunday that we worshipped together in our new church home at 850 High House Road, we gave thanks for our second pastor, Karen H. Whitaker, who would come to us in the summer of 1995.

In 2002, we are celebrated Genesis' 15th anniversary and we broke ground in May of that year for additional classrooms, offices, and a larger flex space. We moved into our new facilities on March 30, 2003 as we continued to renovate existing space. Renovation was complete in September 2003.

A Genesis Christian Preschool was opened in the fall of 2003.

Reflecting upon what God has done in these years to make Genesis a "place for beginning, for belonging, for becoming", we are looking ahead to the exciting years of witness and mission in the future. We continue to strive to be God's hands, feet and heart in this new century.
