George Washington Elementary School

Welcome to George Washington Elementary, a part of the Bethel Park School District. Located in Bethel Park, a suburban area south of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The school is staffed by a faculty that strives to present an instructional program that challenges all students to reach their potential as lifelong learners and responsible members of society. As a kindergarten to grade four elementary school, our basic charge is to provide for the academic needs of the full spectrum of student abilities. In addition to a strong academic program we provide regularly scheduled classes in physical education, art, vocal music, library/media, and computer instruction. The percentile scores achieved by our students in grades one through four are consistently in the mid-eighties to low nineties.

Since we are part of a public school district, our direction comes from the leadership of our elected school board, superintendent, and district administrators. In the past ten years the leadership of the district has accomplished a renovation project upgrading all the facilities in the district. Computer laboratories have been established in each building in addition to stand alone units in the classrooms. The library has recently been converted to electronic checkout and has six computers with Internet capabilities.

Other features of our curriculum include the use of a superior mathematics program as rated by The National Council of Mathematics teachers, an integrated language arts program that combines the aspects of reading, language and writing. Finally, we are in the process of incorporating a hands-on science program in cooperation with ASSET Inc., a non-profit organization created by the Bayer Corporation in 1992, to advance the instruction of science.
