Georgia Mountains Unitarian Universalist Church

439 South Park Street
706-864-0661

In the spring of 1993 a small band of North Georgia Unitarian Universalists, in search of kindred souls, advertised in several local newspapers. Dozens responded to the ad, volunteering to spread the word throughout the area. By late spring our newsletter, The Mountain Chalice began publication.

Almost in the spirit of an old-fashioned barn-raising, members from other UU congregations who had moved to the Georgia mountains, as well as prospective new congregants, pooled their talents, their tools and their time to renovate former office space at the Long Branch Shopping Center near Dahlonega. And on October 10, 1993, our members and supporters gathered here for the first Sunday service to celebrate the birth of the Georgia Mountains Unitarian Universalist Church.

By May 1994 our growing church was recognized as a member of the Unitarian Universalist Association. As such, we affirm both the Unitarian assurance that human beings have within them the capacity to shape the future and the Universalist faith in the benevolence of God.

On September 7, 1997 we had our first Sunday service in our new home at 439 Park Street in Dahlonega. Since that time, as a result of the decision of the congregation to purchase the site, it has become our permanent home.

Our dreams have become real only through our continued energy, our devotion and our increasing financial support. We welcome all who would like to help us build an enduring fellowship of spiritual and intellectual seekers.
