Mission Statement :

Our dedicated educational teams at Glankler and Hacienda School provide early intervention for preschool children with special needs and their parents.

Together we promote the development of language/communication, cognitive, social-emotional, self-help and physical skills to encourage each child to grow to his/her greatest potential as an independent participant in the home, school and community

About Us :

Glankler School is located at 39207 Sundale Drive in the heart of Fremont, California.

It is the home base for public special education provided by the Fremont Unified School District for special needs children ages 0-5 who qualify for special education services.

The District provides coordination of infant programs for "low-incidence" disability children. This includes those who are blind, deaf/hard of hearing, deaf-blind, or severely orthopedically impaired. We also provide special day classes (Glankler Site) and fully integrated preschool classes (Hacienda site), speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, play skills group, and intensive autism intervention for children aged three to five who are found eligible for services under one of thirteen disability categories. The Infant and Preschool Assessment Team begins the referral process.

At Glankler, we are happy to serve any child in need but we believe special education is an exceptional measure that should be used sparingly. It is reserved for those children who clearly could not do without it in school. This belief is part of the well established principle in the United States that says all children should be served in the least restrictive environment that will develop their abilities. The very least restrictive environment is that experienced, generally, by non-disabled children.

At our Glankler site we are able to program activities for our special needs youngsters that include participation by the typically developing children in the Preschool Enrichment Program (P.E.P.) and the State Preschool program which is located at Glankler. At the Hacienda site in Niles, Fremont USD collaborates with the federal Head Start Programs of Southern Alameda County to provide spaces for at least twenty special education children in six general education classroom programs of twenty students each.
