About Us:

Glenwood Country Day School was founded in 1986 by a parent / teacher Cheryl Stradling. Mrs. Stradling, the director of the school stated that, "In times where the public schools in the area are increasingly crowded, teachers are struggling to provide individual attention which leads to children becoming a number. GCDS differentiates from other schools by not only keeping their class sizes small, but by providing an individualized academic program that is driven by the student's abilities. Our philosophy revolves around placing children in reading and math groups, according to their ability and not by age."

As a result of continued enrollment growth, the school has moved three times in the last nineteen years within a ten mile radius. Its present locations are in Glenwood, MD. The Early Childhood campus for children ages 2 to 5 is located at 14785 Bushy Park Road, on a beautiful 40 acre wooded site. The campus includes a soccer / lacrosse field, a sandpit volleyball court, two blacktop areas, two playgrounds, and a swimming pool. The enrollment as of January 2008 is 62 students.

The Elementary School, children ages 5 to 11, is located less than one mile from our preschool campus. It has enough classroom space for 100 students. The facility has a stage, library, and computer areas, as well as a full size gym, music and art room. The Glenwood Library is within walking distance for classroom use. The school rents one acre of land for playground use. Having these wonderful, new facilities opens up many new avenues for Glenwood Country Day School.

The philosophy of Glenwood Country Day School since its founding in 1986 is based on meeting the developmental needs of children. GCDS's developmental program is based on the assumption that growth is a sequential and orderly process. Children pass through predictable stages of physical, emotional, social and cognitive growth during their development. All children do not enter the developmental stages during the same age. The stage is based rather on maturity and experience of the child. GCDS's program is based on individual needs and provides each child with a positive and successful academic experience. The adult's responsibility in the program is to assist the child in growing to his/her fullest potential by fashioning a curriculum that will nurture and facilitate growth during each stage.
