The Hammond Elementary School community is committed to providing a safe, nurturing learning environment where all students are respected
and given equal opportunity to become successful and life-long learners. Hammond Elementary School continues to progress in accelerating our
students by focusing on utilizing a variety of instructional strategies and techniques. HES met Adequate Yearly Progress on the 2003 MSA and a
significant number of students performed at either the advanced or proficient level in reading and mathematics. We are very proud of our
excellent staff and student performance. The talented HES staff excels in teaming and articulating student progress to further maximizes instruction.
Building the Bridge to Excellence is the key focus for this school year, which is observable throughout the building in different capacities, such as
vocabulary building and content extensions. Staff and students display building blocks for enhancing learning throughout the curriculum in each
team.

HES has an excellent volunteer program, with a minimum of 170 members, participating on the School Improvement Team, Curriculum Committees,
and on the Professional Development School Committee. The PTA continues to be an integral partnership for supporting the learning of our
Hammond Elementary students.

The HES Professional Development School partnership with Morgan State University serves as a center for the practice and study of teaching and
learning. The PDS engages in activities that promote the learning of all students and supports the professional growth and development of both
student interns and classroom teachers. This exemplary program has become a natural part of our school climate and environment.
