In 1919, citizens of the township voted to consolidate the small districts into a centralized school district with one school for the entire township. The present Hartford School was opened in 1921 for all township students in grades 1-12. Hartford High School graduated its first class in 1922. The school changed little until 1951 when a gymnasium and shop area were added. Hartford School District consolidated with the Homer, Bennington-Liberty and Alexandria Districts in the late 1950's to form the Northridge Local School District. The Hartford building continues to serve the community as a K-5 elementary school.
