History:
The Hinesville Lions Club was founded on February 26,1941 with 21 members. The Charter night was held on March 24, 1941. Charter President was Fred L. Ginter.

Over the years, the Hinesville Lions Club has been involved in community service projects. These included sponsoring the first Lions Community Fair in 1941 and continuing the project for over 7 years. In 1946, the club obtained permission from the Liberty Independent Troop to build the first swimming pool and picnic pavilion and donated it to the City of Hinesville. Other projects included field lights for Olvey Field (1952); uniforms for the Bradwell Institute Lions football team (1955); and a batting cage for the Liberty Recreational Department (1973). The Hinesville Lions Club sponsors a Little League baseball team for the Liberty County Recreation Department. For over ten years, the Club adopted a stretch of highway under the Clean and Beautiful program. The first year, the Club collected over 2,000 lbs. of trash.
From 1968-1985, the Club sponsored a Peach Bowl Princess. Today the Peach Bowl is the Chick-fil-A Bowl Game.

Our Scholarship Program has been growing since the late 1970's. We now present a scholarship to a graduating senior from each high school.

In 1991, the Club sponsored "A Day for Kevin" to build a trust fund to pay for the medical expenses of 3-year-old Kevin Schumpert who lost an eye in an accident. We have also purchased Braille machines and special "talking" diabetic testing equipment for the sight impaired. Other projects have included repairing homes for the elderly, sponsoring Eagle Scout Service projects, blinds for the Liberty County Senior Citizens Center, and Project C.O.P.E. at Boy Scout Camp Blue Heron: Recently members of the club gave their services to the Boy Scout Order of the Arrow Dixie conclave and donated food to the firemen fighting the largest wildfire in Georgia History (which is still burning as of May 13,2007). We have trained members of our club to use Low Vision Testing Eqipment and will be offering free Low Vision Screening services at a forthcoming Health Fair in Hinesville at the end of this summer.

The Hinesville Lions Club has produced seven Lions District Governors. These were: Rufus Ryon, W.H. "Dutch" Cohan, Fraser Rambo, W.A. "Bill" Gassaway, Charles "Chuck" Shurtleff, Lillian Shurtleff, and Lew Waldrop.
