Holy Cross Catholic Church Of Glouster

31 Republic Avenue
740-767-3068

History:

Our Lady of Mount Carmel, now known as Holy Cross Catholic Church, was founded in 1892 by Father D.A. Thompson. As the community grew and more Catholics attended Mass, thoughts were turned to building a new church. The cornerstone was laid in May 1903 and April 4, 1904 Mass was held in the new church. When the church was built it was then decided to change the name. The new church was dedicated under the title of Holy Cross on June 18, 1904. On March 9, 1915 a devastating fire destroyed the church. The building of the new church was completed in 7 months and the church was dedicated on December 15, 1915. Holy Cross commemorated its 100th anniversary on September 7, 1992 with the newly appointed Bishop Gilbert I. Sheldon (now retired). Holy Cross is very proud of her ancestral roots. We invite you to join us for Holy Mass if you are in the area.
