Mission and Vision:

The Hoosic River Watershed Association is the citizens' group that looks after the river. We are dedicated to the restoration, conservation and enjoyment of the Hoosic River and its watershed, through education, research, and advocacy. We envision a watershed that is ecologically sound and adds to the quality of life of its residents.

History:

HooRWA was founded in 1986 as a private, non-profit 501(c)3 organization. Over the years, we've had remarkable achievements, thanks to dedicated volunteers and support from communities. We've conducted stream assessments and worked on in-channel and riparian restoration projects. We were instrumental in establishing the Mahican-Mohawk trail, the Ashtuwillticook trail, two boat launch sites in Massachusetts, and a linear park in Pownal, VT. We've promoted awareness and appreciation for the river with hikes, lectures, workshops, river cleanups, festivals, and conferences, and implemented environmental education programs in many schools. Our annual rafting program provides free raft rides to hundreds of people in April and May. HooRWA also has a long-standing water quality monitoring program.
