Horizons for Homeless Children

Good afternoon,

Horizons for Homeless Children is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to providing programs and services for homeless children throughout Western Massachusetts including Holyoke.

Our Playspace Program ensures that children living in family homeless shelters in Holyoke have the opportunity for developmentally appropriate play. We build educational spaces in shelters and stock them with books, toys, and art supplies. Our Playspace Activity Leaders (PALs) have a wonderful opportunity to make a difference in the children’s lives by providing them the opportunities for play that are critical for learning and growth.

We are looking for committed and dependable volunteers who:

• Can commit 2 hours a week to volunteering at the same time, same location.

• Can commit 6 months or more to volunteering as a PAL.

• Are at least 16 years old. If you are under 18, however, you will need a guardian to both attend the training and volunteer with you.

• Can attend a one-time, 3 hour training that covers everything from homelessness on a state and local level to early childhood development.
