History:

The Methodist Doctrine had its Iberia origins in 1825.  A circuit rider, Reverend Bell, held church services on an infrequent basis.

In 1840 the Iberia Methodist Episcopal Church was organized by the Reverend Peter Sharp.  In 1841 the first church building was erected on the south side of Marion-Mansfield Road, on lot #48 east of Center Street.  A new and larger church building was erected in 1867, and is the same building in use today.

President Warren G. Harding painted the church building while attending Central College in Iberia in 1882.  He later sent a check which was used to purchase hymnals.

A major remodeling of the church building was completed in 1967.  The renovations included the addition of classrooms, and nursery off the sanctuary, and social rooms and a kitchen in the basement of the building. This remodeling was dedicated on the 100th Anniversary of the church on September 24, 1967.

The Methodist Church merged with the Ecumenical United Brethren Church in 1968, and thus was born the Iberia United Methodist Church.
