Vision:
“Celebrating knowledge by opening minds, hearts and doors” is Islesboro Central School’s vision statement.

Profile:
The Islesboro Central School is a K-12 school situated on an island in Penobscot Bay, three miles off the coast of Maine. The island is accessible only by ferry or private boat; its unique environment and majestic setting make it one of the most beautiful spots on the east coast.

The high school consists of 29 students taught by eight dedicated professionals who offer rigorous secondary programs. Our students are required to take a minimum of six courses per year. More than 90% of our graduates take at least two years of foreign language and pursue mathematics and science courses all the way through pre-calculus and physics. Our students have the opportunity to enroll in two Advanced Placement courses in the areas of mathematics and science. Over the past five years, 23% of our high school students have enrolled in AP Calculus and 56% have enrolled in AP Environmental Science. We also require a full credit in fine arts, which can include visual arts, chorus, band, or humanities. Additionally, Islesboro requires its students to complete a graduation portfolio that includes developing a resume, personal statement, work samples, job-shadowing experiences and a minimum of twenty hours of community service. We are dedicated to using technology and all of our classes have access to the Internet. We emphasize writing and research skills in all academic disciplines and our high school students consistently score far above the state average on the writing portion of the Maine Educational Assessment tests.
