Junior Auxiliary of Lewisburg Service Projects

JAL Backpack Buddies - Each August, Junior Auxiliary of Lewisburg members begin packing their backpacks. No, theyre not going back to school, theyre packing backpacks for local students who may need a little help getting ready for school. After contacting local schools for supply lists, JA members go shopping, buying enough supplies to fill about 15-20 backpacks for each elementary school in the county. During our August meeting, members set up an assembly line filling each backpack to grade level specifications. Backpacks are then distributed to school counselors who hand out the backpacks to families in need. In addition, JA also fills requests for backpacks from upper grades, as well as any additional requests from school counselors throughout the school year.

JAL Suitcase Drive -  Suitcases are collected and donated for foster children to use.

JAL Coat Drive - Keeping Kids Warm - Each year the Junior Auxiliary sponsors a coat drive for children in need. A box is set up at local dry cleaners and at each school in the county where students deliver coats that they have out grown or that they no longer have any use for. These coats are then taken to local dry cleaners that graciously dry clean them for no charge. The guidance counselors then inform a local J.A. member about children who might benefit from this drive, giving the member the size and gender of the child. If no coat is available, then we will purchase one for the child. A coat is then delivered to the school for the child. Last year we gave away over 200 coats.

JAL Junior Ambassadors - Junior Ambassadors is currently serving 30+ 3rd grade students in Marshall County. The purpose of the program is to help students become interested in volunteering in the community. We also focus on teaching respect and good manners. Junior ambassadors are encouraged to become role models for their peers. The program meets monthly after school at West Hills Elementary. We have a variety of speakers from the community and Junior Auxiliary members who talk to the group. These speakers address a specific lesson. Topics covered are: personal safety, listening skills, leadership styles, making introductions, pet etiquette, good study habits, and table manners. We have a banquet for the student that is fully funded by Junior Auxiliary.

JAL Child Welfare - Junior Auxiliarys primary consideration is to the children in our county. The Child Welfare project focuses on a family with children that may need physical, emotional or financial support. The members are able to help in many ways. Both the family and the members of Junior Auxiliary benefit from this worthwhile project.
