About Us:

District 54 is the largest elementary school district in the State of Illinois. We serve about 15,000 students from birth through eighth grade in five junior high schools, 21 elementary schools and one school with children from kindergarten through eighth grade and our new early learning center for children ages birth through five who are at-risk or have Individualized Education Plans.

We opened the Early Learning Center in 2014 and approved a free, full-day kindergarten program at all of our elementary schools in 2015 to support our youngest learners. Research consistently demonstrates the academic and social-emotional benefits children receive from these programs.

We also continue to focus on collaborative learning through Professional Learning Communities. PLCs operate under the assumption that the key to improved learning for students is continuous, job-embedded learning for educators. Our staff includes 1,288 certified teachers and other personnel who support the teachers, including mentors; instructional coaches in literacy, math, bilingual and technology; gifted instruction teachers; bilingual resource teachers and special education teachers at each school site. All of our resource teachers not only support the classroom teachers, but work directly with students during daily math and literacy acceleration blocks in every school.
