Lillian E. Williams Elementary School

114 McGriff Avenue
229-465-3306

History:
The Lillian E. Williams School was built in 1966. It is located in the city of Attapulgus, Georgia. Attapulgus is a small rural town located in southern Georgia, 12 miles south of Bainbridge, Georgia and 25 miles north of Tallahassee, Florida. It has a population of approximately 650 people. Agriculture is the predominate industry and one large manufacturer of specialty chemicals is located in the area.

The school was named after Ms. Lillian E. Williams who served many years as System Supervisor for Instruction for Black Schools. The building that we now refer to as Building I was the Lillian E. Williams Elementary School, and the present day Building II was the Attapulgus-Mt. Moriah High School.

In 1972, the school began to serve all the elementary students of the community of Attapulgus and the surrounding area in grades 1-6. Therefore, we are one of the few schools left in the area that is truly a community school, and we are proud of this distinction!
