Lower Moreland Township School District

2551 Murray Avenue
215-938-0270

The Lower Moreland Township School District is located twenty miles northeast of Philadelphia in Montgomery County. Primarily a residential, upper-middle class community, it has a population of nearly 13,000. Those who live in the township are well-educated and are largely found in professional, technical and managerial occupations. Proximity to the metropolitan area and to shore and mountain resorts makes Lower Moreland an ideal location. Shopping areas, hospitals, recreational facilities, historical sites, and college and trade schools are close by.

Lower Moreland School District owes much of its success to interested parents. In early fall, "Get Acquainted Nights" introduce parents to the schools and staff. Parent conferences occur twice a year following the issuance of report cards. However, teachers are available throughout the year for individual concerns. The Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) helps in many important volunteer capacities providing fund-raising for school needs and assistance for numerous events. It also sponsors a fall and winter Community Enrichment Program offering after school and evening classes for children and adults. Parent Advocates of Lower Moreland(PALM), a parent support group for special needs students, meets regularly. Volunteers help as classroom, clerical and cafeteria aides. Senior citizens participate in special programs for intergenerational understanding and may attend most school functions at no cost. Community members act as resource people sharing their careers or avocations and serving on curriculum and related committees. Parents and residents are invited to attend Superintendent's Coffees offered several times throughout the school year. School facilities such as the swimming pool, tennis courts, track, meeting rooms, and the auditorium are available for community use. All township residents receive regular newsletters and an annual calendar from the district.

The school district is dedicated to excellence in education with an emphasis on individual needs. As the formal philosophy states: "The Lower Moreland Township School District recognizes that each pupil is an individual and should be allowed to develop as such. Our aim is to provide each pupil with the knowledge and skills he/she will need for self-fulfillment and attainment of social responsibility. We are dedicated to the continuous education of the whole child, mentally, physically and socially."
