Mission:

Lyndon Institute is an academic community providing students with excellent preparation for success in school, college, careers and life.

About Us:

We are an independent school where high expectations of students and faculty are realized in a caring environment that instills a sense of belonging and supports individual growth and exploration. We have built a strong community where our guiding principles of respect, responsibility, empathy, integrity, and courage, converge to form the foundation of daily life at LI. As a day and boarding school with deep roots in the community, the level of commitment of our employees is high, and the interaction between our students and staff leads to developing knowledgeable, thoughtful, and engaged citizens.

Our History :

Lyndon Institute was founded in 1867.  In the course of its history, the campus has served as home to the Lyndon Commercial College in 1886 as well as the Vermont School of Agriculture.  The latter was founded in 1910 by Theodore N. Vail, the first president of New England Telephone Company and the American Telephone and Telegraph Company (AT&T).  In 1923, the name was officially changed to Lyndon Institute.

From 1923 to 1951, the Institute provided both secondary and post-secondary educational programs to area students.  In 1951, the post-secondary programs become Lyndon State College.
