History

Since 1832, Methodists have been meeting on the land where our church now stands. The first structure was built around 1868 on land that was deeded to the church by A.S. (Dolphus) Henry. It was a simple log building that those in the community called Henry's Chapel. The building was heated by a fireplace and used as both a church and a school.

In 1895, a frame building was erected. This building was later replaced by a white frame structure that stood from 1908 until 1949. It was then torn down to make room for the present sanctuary. The first church bell was bought by Jack Setzer who paid for the bell by selling two steers at $20 each.

The fourth building was built in 1950 from native rock by members of the church. According to some of the older members of the church, Charlie Carpenter was the first pastor and was also the school teacher. Among the earlier members of the church were the Henry family, Setzer family, the Carpenters, Fies, Mehaffeys, Rathbones, Fingers, Suttons, Campbells, Mooneys, Moodys, Evans, Huntlys, Gentrys, Carvers, Garretts, and others.

In 1980 a fellowship hall was added. In 1990 the sanctuary was enlarged to accommodate about 200 people. Our new facilities include the Child Care Center and Preschool, new classrooms, a church library, and a sanctuary addition. The real history of our church has been and is being written in the lives of those individuals that make up our congregation. We believe that Maggie Church has been a positive influence on the life of this community for a long time. Let us commit ourselves to the task of continuing this very important work.
