Mendham Grace Lutheran Church

65 East Main Street
973-543-7595

Mission:

We are God's people, baptized into new and eternal life in Jesus Christ and brought together by God's Holy Spirit.

Seeking to grow in faith and obedience to God's will, we come together to worship and learn, and we go out to share the good news and serve Christ in daily life.

History:

In January 1966, the Board of Missions of the American Lutheran Church purchased Grace's present property at 65 East Main Street in Mendham, New Jersey and incorporation papers were signed on February 14. Pastor William Rosenow accepted the call and he and his family moved into the newly acquired Parsonage at 13 Country Lane in January 1967.

The first group of prospective members met on February 3, 1967 for a progressive dinner and began making plans for the months ahead. The first CHANNELS of Grace was printed and other firsts followed quickly: the Youth Group met, the first choir rehearsed at the parsonage and Grace's first service of public worship was held on March 5 at the Brookside Community Club, with 56 persons attending in spite of a late winter storm.

Besides meeting weekly for worship and study, the future charter members met almost every night to work on the interior of the hexagon-shaped Church, build the chancel furniture, paint the walls, design and sew all the robes, vestments, paraments and stoles, clean the building and begin landscaping. A steering committee was formed to propose a constitution for the Church and nominated the first Church Council.
