History:
The Mexico Baptist Church of Mexico, IN was founded in 1861 during the presidency of Abraham Lincoln and in the middle of the Civil War. Twenty-nine people met on June 16, 1861 and decided to organize into a Regular Baptist Church after it was discovered that somebody had sent a derogatory Valentine's card to a lady at the Wesaw Church. That one small card ignited the need for positive change in a spirit of godliness in this part of Indiana and Miami County...and the church has been in ministry ever since! In 1991 a new sanctuary was built along with some additional rooms which include classrooms, a pastor's study, nursery, and a new baptistry. The new building was dedicated to the glory of God on March 5, 1992.
