About

The Miami University Art Center located in Phillips Hall is the home of the popular Art Sprint Class program, which includes classes in ceramics, photography, 3D design, drawing, glass work, jewelry, sewing, laser cutting and manufacturing techniques and woodworking. These short-term, introductory classes are oriented towards the non-art major and are focused on hands-on, experiential learning.

Art Center instructors are working artists and educators who love creating the opportunity for others to experience the joy and enrichment that comes from artistic pursuit. All classes are limited in size to ensure each student receives personal attention and guidance

The Art Center in Phillips Hall houses studios for ceramics, metalsmithing, glass, drawing, and digital photography. These studios serve our Sprint course offerings and the CraftSummer workshops.

- The ceramics area includes 12 pottery wheels, electric kilns, a handbuilding area, and various slips, glazes and clay.

- Glass equipment includes lampworking/beading torches, glass kiln for fusing and slumping, and enameling kilns.

- For the metalsmiths, we have hand metalsmithing tools, an acetylene torch and a vented soldering hood, a large bench area, and a rolling mill and buffer.

- Additionally, the Art Center has two, twenty-seat classrooms with digital projection equipment that are used for drawing studios and digital photography instruction.
