Middletown Senior Center

Middletown Senior Center
15299 Central Park Road
707-987-3113

The Senior Center was started in 1973 by John Baughman, with his outreach worker, Lucille Lambert and Emily Madina of Progressive Senior Citizens.  After John had to resign due to his wife's illness, John Middlemist took up the cause and continued the work of getting the center going.  John and Ann Schott were representatives of the Lake and Mendocino Senior Council on Aging.  Olga Hudson was coordinator for all senior programs and Lucille Lambert was the first director and outreach worker.  Mary Hardesty was the second outreach worker under Inez Larmer as director.

The Center originally was located in the building the Times Star Newspaper previously occupied on Calistoga Street.  It later moved to the old Herrick Hotel.

In the beginning food was transported from Clearlake to Middletown by Andy Pedro and Bud Smith.  In 1981, the Center leased the building we are currently in from the Middletown Central Park Association and began developing the senior programs.  There were many fundraisers to raise money for the improvements that were needed.  The seniors moved into the Center on June 5, 1982.

There are many volunteers who donate their time and energy to support the Center through delivering meals to homebound seniors, serving meals in the dining room and supporting the many programs and activities offered.  Thousands of hours are donated by a staff of over 50 volunteers every year.
