History:

Mill Creek East Elementary is located in Clayton, Indiana, which is in the southwest part of Hendricks County about twenty miles west of Indianapolis. East has approximately 570 students in preschool through sixth grade. The building was opened in the fall of 1973 to replace two aging elementaries. It was enlarged and extensively renovated in 1996-97. The added space allows for larger classrooms, two computer labs, a science/activity lab, a large group instruction room, a larger gymnasium, and additional storage space. East also has a fenced outdoor learning lab complete with a pond, garden areas, and a log cabin. As a member of Old National Trails Special Services Co-op, East houses several special education classes; a class for Mildly Handicapped students, one for Multiply Handicapped students, and three Developmental Preschool classes. It also has a resource room to serve students with Learning Disabilities.

In addition to classroom instruction, students in grades 1 through 6 have regularly scheduled classes in music, art, physical education, library skills, and computer skills.
