Monroeville Volunteer Fire Company #4

4370 Northern Pike

Our department is located in the Municipality of Monroeville, about 12 miles east of the city of Pittsburgh, PA. We are a Fire / EMS / Rescue company comprised of about 60 individuals who are dedicated to serving the residents of Monroeville and surrounding communities on a daily basis.

Monroeville Fire Station 4 was not always as you see it today, it started from it’s humble beginnings in 1955 as a small two bay fire station on Mosside Boulevard (Route 48) where CoGo’s is located today. The original Fire Chief of station 4 was Tom Spelth. He was then followed by Willard Graham. But in 1960, Gene Wagner became the company’s 3rd chief. Chief Wagner held this position for a number of years. In 1965 the fire company completed it's move to our current location on Northern Pike. The new building originally had six bays along with a large social hall where bingo’s and special events are still held.

In 1965 Jack Hileman was elected Fire Chief, a position in which he served for 15 years. Chief Hileman saw to many of the improvements not only within our company but also within the Municipality of Monroeville. One of the major accomplishments that Chief Hileman achieved was the Monroeville Fire Department/Municipality of Monroeville Fire Chiefs Agreement that is still in effect today. This agreement was instrumental to all five fire companies along with the municipality. It stated a program for the Municipality of Monroeville to purchase major fire apparatus (pumpers & aerials), provide vehicle maintenance, support EMS and having fuel available to the departments. This program has helped our departments keep up to date with the firefighting techniques over the years along with providing a quality fire service to the residents and business of monroeville. Also during Chief Hileman’s tenure several pieces of apparatus were purchased, one of which was Monroeville’s first aerial truck.

In 2000 Doug Cole became the company's current Fire Chief. Some of the accomplishments and projects under Chief Cole’s administration have been the remodeling of the first floor office area, and the purchase of a Heavy Rescue Truck, Rescue 4 2001 Spartan/Saulsbury 21’ Walk-In Box. Some of the remodeling included the addition of a non "live-in" locker room, weight room facility, conference room and renovation of the apparatus bays. Plans are in the works to accomplish many tasks including replacement of our current ladder tower, a new ambulance in 2004, and a squad and chief’s car in 2003 Remodeling of the second floor area is also planned in the near future.
