Muhlenberg College

2400 Chew Street

Founded in 1848, Muhlenberg is a highly selective, private, four-year liberal arts college located in the beautiful Lehigh Valley of eastern Pennsylvania. The College took its present name in 1867 from Henry Melchior Muhlenberg, patriarch of the Lutheran Church in the American Colonies.

Muhlenberg aims to help students become independent critical thinkers who are intellectually agile, characterized by a zest for reasoned and civil debate, knowledgeable about the achievements and traditions of diverse civilizations and cultures, able to express ideas with clarity and grace, committed to life-long learning, equipped with ethical and civic values and prepared for lives of leadership and service. The College offers 40 majors in the humanities, fine arts, social sciences and natural sciences, in addition to strong pre-professional programs in such areas as pre-health, pre-law, pre-theology, business and education.

Muhlenberg affords its students an unusual degree of freedom and responsibility, both within the academic program and in campus life. The Muhlenberg experience is characterized by a deep sense of community and connection, intense student-faculty relationships and collaboration; small classes; passionate teaching and active learning; and powerful outcomes in terms of graduate school and entry-level career placement.

We fell in love almost instantly. It's a beautiful traditional looking campus. At first we thought maybe too small. The trade-off for that is in a staff and admin that actually knows the students - one-on-one. Seriously. Our daughter is a dual theater/English major minoring in French. This is one of the very few schools we saw that encourages dual, let alone allows it. And they back that up with the support to get it accomplished. This was very important to me with a theater major child. I can't speak to campus life, because I'm a parent. But our suburban NYC daughter, a city kid through and through, absolutely loves the school and her non-academic life.

My alma mater. Great college for anyone interested in the sciences or arts. Small but lively campus. Dinning hall is great and has kosher options. Theater program one of the best. Check it out.

I am a 1983 graduate and I felt that my educational experience at Muhlenberg was excellent. It is academically very rigorous and challenging, but also socially responsible while providing a very family-like atmosphere. I have had opportunities to go back to the college recently and the changes to the campus with the new buildings and facilities along with the academic upgrades were truly impressive. Muhlenberg to me should be high on anyone's list looking for a top notch education in a supportive, tight knit academic community environment.

Great liberal arts college with a beautiful, walkable campus. I've been on campus three years in a row at the student union for an unrelated event and enjoyed the many advantages of the campus as a senior adult. Students will like the food. And I hope the education.
