Our Story

Some say it was a match made in heaven. On September 11, 2011 members of what were formerly two churches signed off on combining their resources to become New Covenant Church of Naperville.

On September 10, 1970 the first worship service was held at the then-new church building at One Bunting Lane, on the southwest corner of Washington and 75th Streets in Naperville, IL. The founding members—65 adults plus children—had formed a committee in 1963 for the purpose of continuing Congregationalism and had met at the YMCA and Ellsworth School before completion of the new building. The church went by the name Naperville Congregational Church and embarked on a long history of ministry in the community.

Meanwhile, in Vision 2000, Pastor R. Kent Hughes and College Church in Wheaton envisioned planting three new churches in the Chicagoland area in the successive ten years. New Covenant Church, founded on June 1, 2008 was the fulfillment of that dream. There were 55 founding members and over 100 regular attendees including children. The church held services on the campus of North Central College.

In 2011, Naperville Congregational Church and New Covenant Church merged their congregations, leadership, and ministries to accommodate a growing membership. The merger brought both congregations together as one independent church body at One Bunting Lane in Naperville.

Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. -Eccl. 4:9
