Mission

The mission of the North Spencer County Alternative Education Center is to provide adults life-changing educational experiences.

Vision

The North Spencer Alternative Education Center serves adults in their efforts to achieve their educational goals. Providing an inviting, caring environment expresses our value that every student is important. Qualified and sufficient staff members encourage students to achieve at the highest levels possible by maintaining a safe and positive study environment conducive to learning, giving effective individualized instruction to students, providing students timely feedback on their progress, and affirming students for their accomplishments. Staff members work collaboratively with each other and with students to maintain collegial and friendly relationships based on honesty and openness.

We offer educational programs of the highest quality so that our adult students can attain their personal goals. As a professional learning community, we research latest technologies and instructional methodologies and implement best practices in our field. The staff participates in ongoing professional development in order to keep abreast of innovations that will improve our programs. Evidence of student achievement is collected through graduation rates, standardized test results, attendance and retention rates, graduate follow-up data, level gains, and student surveys to provide us a basis for informed decision-making.

When residents of our area think of participating in adult education, the first place they think of is the North Spencer Alternative Education Center. Students are valued customers who have freely chosen our Center as the place they wish to be. They set their own educational goals, and the staff is committed to helping them be successful. Believing that all students can learn and achieve, we allow the locus of control over attainment of goals to remain with students, yet we provide the support services and structures they need to succeed.

Businesses are active partners with us in developing the skills adults need to be successful in employment. We work with social service agencies to provide mutual referrals of clients. The general public is well informed of the programs we offer so that adults in need of educational services can contact us. Volunteers are involved in our programs as appropriate, allowing our students to learn from the valuable experiences others wish to share.
