Olmsted Community Church

7853 Main Street

History :

We are the offspring of two Church families joined together in a Covenanted Partnership. In times such as these, we all have the opportunity to look back and see ourselves in the light of our forbears.

Our Church Roots: 1917
First Congregational Church of Olmsted (established in 1835) joined with our other Church family, The Methodist Church (established 1843) to bring into being our present family, "The Federation of the Methodist and Congregational Churches of Olmsted Falls, Ohio".

On May 24, 1923, we officially became chartered as Olmsted Community Church. When the sanctuary was constructed, The Reverends Mapes and Norenberg said:

"Today a dream has become a reality, and we share the sense of fulfillment and the thrill which are in the hearts of all who have had a part in building this house of worship."

Our 50th Anniversary: 1973 We celebrated the 50th anniversary of Olmsted Community Church in 1973. The Reverend Walker said:

"It would be no disservice to the Christian cause and there would be no lack of gratitude to the charter members of this Community Church if we dedicated this history of these last fifty years of the Olmsted Community Church to the next fifty years since we hope, we pray, and we believe that in the Providence of God this Church we have loved and served will go from strength to strength in the worship and service of Jesus Christ, our Master and Lord."

Our Church Today: 2005 - Since then, we have discovered that this house of worship is in faith and practice the people of God, more than the building. We also continue to discover in so many significant ways what it means to go from strength to strength in the worship and service of Jesus Christ. We have received the inheritance of an ongoing vision to build a Church which practices unprecedented enthusiasm in religious tolerance and Christian service.

Our Church is a Protestant Church of Jesus Christ. As a result of a merger in Olmsted Falls of The Congregational Church and The Methodist Church we are now called Olmsted Community Church. We meet regularly to worship in a variety of ways. We are affiliated with The United Church of Christ in covenanted mission activities of Jesus Christ in the World.

The mission of any church is to be a steward of grace and mercy to the people of God. Our purpose is to invite all God’s people into the Sacramental presence of Christ and to extend this stewardship to all the world. We believe that together we can accomplish Christ’s mission and with each other we can affirm the presence of the Holy Spirit in and among us. Diversity of being, inclusiveness in community, and faithfulness in our actions is the character of our Church. Together we are strengthened to be one in Christ.
