Dr. Powers is a graduate of Brown University’s PLME, a highly selective program which admits a few high school students into a combined undergraduate and medical school curriculum.  She was awarded a BA in biomedical ethics and biology in 1980 and her MD degree in 1983.  She continued her education with Brown’s Family Medicine residency, completing the program and attaining board certification in 1986 and recertification periodically thereafter.  She was awarded the degree of Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) in 1994.
