Polo Community Unit School District No. 222

100 Union Avenue
815-946-3815

About Us :

The Polo School District is located mainly in southwest corner of Ogle county in northern Illinois, and includes small sections of Carroll, Whiteside, and Lee counties. The area is mainly agricultural with rolling hills dotted with forested areas. The town of Polo, founded in 1857, has a population of approximately 2500 and is a rather typical Midwestern small town.

Initially the town had separate elementary and high school districts, but these combined to form the current unit school district in 1954. Centennial Elementary School houses grades K-5 as well as pre-school services. Aplington Middle School contains grades 6-8, while the High School has grades 9-12.

The district has officially adopted the following School District Philosophy:

Polo Community Unit Schools are established and maintained for the purpose of meeting the educational needs of all boys and girls of this community. We feel the opportunity for an education is a right which is extended to all.

Our School District Goals are:

To continually evaluate student and community needs to keep the educational programs adjusted to the changing needs and interests of the district population.

To provide students with experiences which will assist in developing constructive uses of their leisure time.

To provide students with an opportunity to pursue a course of study which is compatible with their aptitude and ability.

To provide group experiences which will foster the development of these ideals: citizenship, patriotism, and respect for self and others.

To create an atmosphere which is conducive to setting the stage for learning.

To create an atmosphere which will support critical thinking and the desire to pursue independent learning experiences.

To provide the physical facilities, as well as the professional personnel, to meet the educational needs of this community.
