Prairie Arts Council

24 Park Avenue East
815-875-2787

History:

The Prairie Arts Council was organized in 1995 with a Board of Directors that has implemented the vision of establishing a community center for the arts. The Council procured a building in 1996 which has added to the cultural and historic heritage of the community. Since the Prairie Arts Center opened, the Council has sponsored hundreds of successful programs, classes, musical and theatrical productions and visual arts showings for people of all ages and abilities. Our goal is to continue to carry out our mission with increased participation, attendance and diversity, and we have seen growth and membership, financial support and programming in the past 14 years.

The Prairie Arts Council is a regional nonprofit 501 (c) (3) organization whose guiding purpose is to strengthen and support the participation in the arts in North Central Illinois. These include drama, music, art, literature, history and preservation of architectural buildings. Funding for Prairie Arts Council comes from memberships, memorial gifts and individual donations, fund raisers, annual benefits such as the Gala and the non-gala raffle, grants from Illinois Arts Council, Illinois Valley Fine Arts Trust, Sun Foundation, Illinois Humanities Council and Princeton’s Closet.
