As individuals we identify ourselves only as Christians (Acts 11:26). As a congregation we identify ourselves as the church of Christ (Romans 16:16). This explains our relationship with Christ. We are of Christ, having believed that Jesus Christ is the Son of God (John 8:24); having repented of our sins (having a change of heart which results in a change of lifestyle) (Acts 2:38); having confessed that Jesus Christ is the Son of God (Acts 8:37 and Romans 10:9,10); and having been baptized (immersed) "into Christ" (Galatians 3:26,27). All spiritual blessings are found in Christ (Ephesians 1:3). It is by His authority each one was immersed in water with the understanding that baptism is necessary to receive the forgiveness of sins (Acts 2:38; 22:16; 1 Peter 3:21; Revelation 1:5).
The Bible is the inspired Word of God and we follow it as our ONLY guide in religious matters (2 Timothy 3:16,17; 1 Peter 4:11; John 12:48). The Scriptures teach that each congregation should be self-governing, led by "elders" (1 Timothy 3:1-7; 1 Peter 5:1-3). Each congregation is autonomous, i.e., independent of all other congregations and religious groups. We encourage one another to love and do good works (Hebrews 10:23-25) by following only the Word of God. (John 12:48; 16:13; Acts 2:42;
2 Timothy 3:16,17; Peter 1:3; Jude 3).
