About Us:

What We Believe

We believe that God has brought you to our church.

All are welcomed and encouraged to grow in the knowledge of God and His Holy Word.

St. John’s is an orthodox parish that believes that the Bible is the inspired Word of God and that it provides clear moral teaching that is true for all times and in all places.

God’s Word is to be preached and taught as written and interpreted by the universal church for the past 2000 years, even when it disagrees with the prevailing culture.

We also believe that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Teachings that say the Holy Spirit is doing a “new work” that is inconsistent with Holy Scripture are false and must be rejected.

We believe in the traditional view of Christian marriage, that it is intended to be a holy bond between a man and a woman in a life-long relationship.

We are called to remain in the center of Anglican orthodoxy. Our membership in the Anglican Communion Network and the American Anglican Council helps us to remain in full communion with all 38 provinces of the 77 million member Anglican Communion.

Purpose

St. John’s hopes to be your church home where:

The Good News of God’s love is proclaimed through personal witness, preaching and teaching.

Evangelism is encouraged. We are called to reach out and share God’s love and grace with our neighbors, our community and the world.

The power and presence of Jesus Christ is experienced through our worship celebrations. We are strengthened and healed by the transforming power of the Lord as we hear His Holy Word, hear dynamic preaching, and join in the Sacrament of Holy Communion.

God’s healing grace is experienced in a loving, welcoming community.

Christ centered and Biblically based education for all ages is provided as well as the encouragement to grow to maturity in Christ.

Your children are important! We have made a special commitment to young families to provide exciting and meaningful worship and instruction.

Ministry to the poor and needy is a heartfelt priority, and we are actively involved in meeting the needs of the community.

You can get involved! Ministry, service, outreach, and fellowship opportunities enable us to support the work of St. John’s as well as the community around us.

History:

Led by a missionary and a member of an English colony in the Fallbrook area, St. John’s was established as a mission in 1891 and the first church was built. The original church was located on a steep hill, two blocks from Main Street. As the fortunes of the town waxed and waned, St. John’s became inactive from 1900 until 1906. Episcopalians in this area were served by a missionary, until English born Robert Gooden, Jr. became Priest-in-Charge. He later became Suffragan Bishop of the Diocese of Los Angeles. Many priests-in-charge and vicars succeeded him, and in 1955, the first services were held in a new church building on the present site of St. John’s. During the same year, St. John’s Thrift Shop was established. In 1973 St. John’s became a parish in the newly formed Diocese of San Diego.
