About Us:

The parish of St. Mary of the Knobs founded in 1823 has served under the names of four Dioceses. The names of these Dioceses are Bardstown, Ky., Louisville, Ky., Vincennes, In., and Indianapolis, In.. Bishop Flaget, the first Bishop of Bardstown, traveled through the Knobs to Vincennes seven times. On his first trip an escort was provided for him by General George Rogers Clark. In 1829, he stopped on his way to Vincennes and celebrated Mass at a home in New Albany and in a log church on the Knobs for eleven families. The Diocese of Vincennes, In. was established eleven years after our Knobs parish was founded. Bishop Brute from France became the first Bishop of Vincennes, In.. (The process for sainthood of Bishop Brute has begun just this year).

It is believed that St. Mary of the Knobs is standing on the threshold of a new chapter to be written in its history. With ministries expanding to serve the needs of the people, space is at a premium. The buildings that have served us well over the years are being used to capacity. Prayer has begun with parishioners to seek inspiration from the Holy Spirit to explore the possibility of future expansion. What is the vision that God has for the parish? How can the parish best extend its mission of spiritual, educational, and human needs to our parishioners and neighbors.
