Salmon Creek Sportsmen's Club

2623 Scipio/Venice Town Line Road
315-364-6778

The Club land is located on Big Salmon Creek in Cayuga County, NY, and had been formally owned by the Saxton Family of Venice Center, NY.
This property had a large pond on it through which the Salmon Creek flowed.
In the late 1800's and early 1900's, during the winter months ice was cut from the pond and loaded aboard the "New York Auburn to Lansing Railroad Company" AKA Auburn to Ithaca Short Line. The Railroad went out of business in the early 1900's, as did the pond area.
During a heavy rain the Dam burst which caused a Flood, washing out several bridges down stream. The club had thought of rebuilding the Pond, but due to the "Water Shed" area (many, many acres) the only thing that could be done was to build a Dike away from the main stream area.
Due to the cost, this was never done.
