About Us

A nonprofit corporation organized to develop financial support, growth, and community awareness for the Santa Ana Zoo.

The Friends of Santa Ana Zoo was founded in 1972 by a group of volunteers, aided by Barbara Berton, as the Santa Ana Zoologicial Society. These volunteers bonded with the common goal of enhancing the Zoo's services and providing financial support for the needs of the animals. The organization received official tax-exempt status in September 1975, and the Friends of Santa Ana Zoo was born. Since that time, the organization has grown to include 4 full-time employees and has an annual organizational budget of $987,667.

Today, the Friends of Santa Ana Zoo provides assistance to the Santa Ana Zoo in various areas including the Animal Adoption program and Guest Services, which include staffing and stocking the Zoo's Gift Shop, operating the "Zoofari Express" train ride, seasonal elephant rides, facility rentals, and marketing and communications. FOSAZ also hosts various special events throughout the year, such as: the Zoo Birthday Party, which includes music and games for Zoo visitors; Zoofari, a large-scale black-tie gala fundraiser; Boo at the Zoo, a Halloween-themed attraction held during five evenings in October; and members-only events such as a New Members Tour, Zoo-B-Que, and Sunset at the Zoo. FOSAZ also supports capital projects and Zoo educational programs, recruiting volunteers and seeking funds for improvements and expanded programming.

Such an amazing little zoo. They have so many different animals for such a low price for admission. Its only $12 for adults. Many of the animals they have are vulnerable or endangered so its really a treat to be able to see them up close. They have at least 5 different species of tamarinds which are the cutest type of monkey in my opinion. All of the staff was very informative and fun to talk with. I highly recommend visiting.

Santa Ana Zoo is a non profit that focuses on actual conservation and education as opposed to many zoos out there. They carry a high zoo rating and is very local and family friendly. Best known for their monkeys and their preservation efforts for many at risk species. The animals at the zoo are either conservation projects, rescued animals from exotic pet collectors or animals that cannot fend for themselves in the wild due to injury. They're a small community driven organization and have great deals on family passes.

I wish they had more workers. The ferris wheel took forever, like 30 minutes and the line was 15 people deep. Way too long to wait. What happens when they are busy? Use all of the buckets next time. They split up a birthday party so badly.

Great place to take the kids on a half day trip. Very affordable and the park is big enough to get the sight seeing you will need in a day. Love how they have a little a playground as well good time to rest while the kids run wild. 👍
