Sarasota Friends Meeting (Quakers)

We gather for an hour to listen for the presence of Spirit within-- our inward teacher. We wait in the power of this silent communion which is the ground of our worship. Occasionally, and at any point in the Meeting, someone may stand and deliver a message which they discern to be from the Divine, to be shared with all. Those who speak and those who are silent are equally vital to the worship. Meeting is concluded when our clerk shakes hands with the person next to him.

Children and visitors welcome.

Meeting for Worship: Sunday 10 AM.

First Day school for children starts at 10:00 am.

The special thing for those of you who've never been to a quaker meeting is the silence. It's meant for listening. There is no sermons, prayers, speeches, music, Financial Appeals, or clergy. A volunteer acts as the clerk. It's a good place for those of us who are tired of being talked to and would prefer to listen to our inner voice, which is wise. There is a coffee time after the meeting and listening to the lives and values of the Quakers and the Quaker friends who attend is a very special experience, if you have ever left a typical Church after the meeting feeling empty.

Friendly people, that let us use their hall for a fair food meeting.
