Our History :
The Consortium became a legal nonprofit organization in 1999. However, the member agencies have been collaborating through an informal partnership for more than 30 years. Through this durable partnership, each agency has worked diligently to provide Meals on Wheels and other services within its own geographic area, while also collaborating for the overall good of the people of Ramsey County.
Our mission is to improve the quality of life for seniors in Ramsey County by providing Meals on Wheels and other services that help people maintain their highest level of independence.
Meals on Wheels
Bringing Health and Hope to Older Adults
Meals on Wheels is a non-profit service that delivers nutritious midday meals to people who are elderly or disabled, homebound, and unable to prepare their own meals. Priority is given to people age 60 or older who have a permanent or temporary illness, injury, or disability and people age 18-60 who are certified disabled through the State of Minnesota.
Each Meals on Wheels program is assigned a geographic area and is responsible for intake, client assessment, and the day-to-day tasks necessary to provide meals. They deliver meals, recruit volunteers, and seek financial support from within their local communities.
All Meals on Wheels programs deliver regular, low-salt (2-3 grams sodium), and diabetic meals. Some programs offer additional special diets. Ethnic and Kosher meals are available in some areas. Meal costs vary for each program.
